John Marston Evans, Jr., 83, passed peacefully January 1st 2021. John was born in Birmingham Alabama November 29th, 1937. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard from 1961-1964. John met the love of his life, Lodema Westmoreland Evans, in Birmingham, Alabama and married her in 1964. They were blessed with three children. As a young man he worked with his father and brothers for Evans TV and enjoyed Amateur Radio W4GUR. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1967 with a degree in electrical engineering and enjoyed a distinguished career with Alabama Power for 31 years. After retirement John and Lodema enjoyed traveling and had many adventures across North America, Europe, and Australia. He was a devout parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa.
John believed in giving of himself and helping those in need. Organizations he served with include Holy Spirit Meals on Wheels, Knights of Columbus, Kairos Prison Ministry, and served as the first president of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, Tuscaloosa Conference.
John loved sharing stories and laughing with family and friends. He came from a large family and was delighted when everyone would come from all over the United States for the huge Evans family reunion. He was a lifelong Alabama fan. He was a kind man who loved his family and was beloved by everyone. John will be greatly missed.
He is predeceased by his father, John Marston Evans, Sr., his mother, Rosemary Hood Evans Dempsey, his son, John Marston Evans III, and his brothers, Harry Bruce (Butch) Evans, Richard Patrick (Pat) Evans, Sr., and Joseph John Evans, (Jack). He is survived by his wife, Lodema Westmoreland Evans, daughter Paula Evans (Lisa Muncher), and son David Neal Evans, as well as his sisters, Dorothy Kay Evans Frament (Paul) and Rosemary (Rosy) Rita Evans Fox, (Rob), and his brother, Thomas D. Evans (Marie), as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m.
