John M. (Jack) Demers, 88
Brunswick John M. (Jack) Demers, 88, of Brunswick Road, died Monday, February 2, 2004, at Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center Albany, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late John B. and Mary Morris Demers and husband of the late Margaret F. (Peg) Wells Demers. He had resided in Troy all his life and was educated at Troy schools.
Mr. Demers was employed at Peck Electric in Troy for many years retiring 23 years ago.
He was Past President of the Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance, Past President and Secretary of the New York State Conservation Council, Region 4 representative for the NYS Fish and Wildlife Board, a member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club and the Troy Rod and Gun Club. He was an Assistant Coach of the RPI Women’s Tennis Team for many years and a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. Jack was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II during the invasion of Okinawa, Japan and a member of the Thomas B. Flynn Veteran’s Post in Watervliet and Veteran’s of Lansingburgh Inc.
Survivors include his children, John (Jack) F. Demers (Terry) of Olmstedville, NY, Elizabeth (Betsy) Bartels (Paul) of Zephyrhills, FL and Donald Demers (Debra) of Boise, ID; his grandchildren, Marie Campbell, Tina Schatz, Kerry Ames, Dawn Poole, Rachel Demers and John C., Stephen, Michael, Donald Jr., Matthew and Blake Demers; many many great grandchildren; his sisters, Gloria Sharen of Madison, NJ, Katherine Barna of Troy and Joan Prefore of Troy; his brothers, Rolin Demers of Long Beach, CA and James Demers of Troy and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Chester, William and Robert Demers.
