John Lawrence Willis Sr. age 93, of Ashland, died Thursday November 24, 2011 at Brethren Care Village. He was born on December 8, 1917 in Greenwich, the son of Harold D. and Retta (Carpenter) Willis. Mr. Willis had lived most all of his life in Ashland County. He had been employed with U- Brand where he was a foreman; he retired after nearly 50 years. Mr. Willis was a member of the Grace Brethren Church. He was a member of the Paint and Plain Saddle Club, a member of the 20 Plus Club with U- Brand, and had been on the AARP Committee. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include his daughter and son in- law, Nance’ and Bert Carlson of New Jersey; his four sons and daughters in- law, John Lawrence Willis Jr. of Ashland, Harald and Anne Willis of Arizona, David and Jennifer Willis of Ashland, Kevin and Paula Willis of Crestline; his two stepdaughters, Dannette and Greg Williams of Delaware, Suzanne Briggs of Loudonville; his 17 grandchildren; along with his 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 1st wife Violet (Cline) Willis in 1974, his 2nd wife Betty (Barber) Willis in 2005, along with his brother Chet Willis.
