John K. Lloyd, 75, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka. He was born on February 8, 1947 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Dorothy B. (Francis) Lloyd. On June 29, 1974 he married Stephanie A. Mann who survives. John is also survived by one daughter, Jennifer Leonard of South Bend, Indiana, one grandson, Ethan Leonard of South Bend, Indiana, one sister, Francis Barnard of LaPorte, Indiana, his best friend Phil Rafalski and his “sister” Sherry Rafalski. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, along with all the many family friends who called him “Uncle John”. He was preceded in death by one brother George Lloyd.

 

John was a 1965 graduate of New Carlisle High School. He worked as a die setter at RACO in South Bend where he also served as president of the IUE-CWA local for some time. After 43 years at RACO he retired in 2012. With retirement came his pontoon boat “The Bobber”. He and Stephanie spent many happy hours on The Bobber bobbing around Pine Lake with family and friends. He was a member of Terre Coupee Masonic Lodge and New Carlisle United Methodist Church. John served proudly and honorably in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a fifty plus year member of American Legion Post 297 in New Carlisle serving several terms as Post Commander. It was important to John to honor our fallen veterans. Each Memorial Day he and his grandson Ethan placed American flags at the graves of the heroes resting in Olive Chapel Cemetery. In recent years more family and friends joined in.
