Obituary of John Joseph Reardon

REARDON, John Joseph of Saginaw, Michigan, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 7, 2019 at Hoyt Nursing Rehab Centre. Age 90 years. John Joseph Reardon was born on April 14, 1929 in Bay City to the late Peter and Emily (Walton) Reardon. He married Dorothy Lee on August 30, 1952 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Saginaw, she preceded him in death on February 4, 2011. John attended and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Bay City. He went on to Bay City Junior College where he earned an associate degree in business. John was drafted into the United States Army in 1951, earning the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Upon completion of active duty in 1953, he joined the Army Reserve and earned the rank of Colonel, retiring after 26 years of service. He was employed by the Saginaw Paint Manufacturing Company as a bookkeeper and rose through the ranks becoming President of the company. John was a member and past president of the Germania club for many years, a faithful member of the Fordney Club, and was also a life member of the Saginaw Club. John was a lifelong, dedicated Michigan State University fan and loved the Spartans more than anything. He was a faithful and active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for many years.

John and Dorothy co-founded Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre in 1963 and later developed Heritage Nursing Home in Saginaw and Hampton Nursing Home in Bay City. Together they were pioneers in Michigan’s long-term care profession.

Left to cherish his memory are five children: Kimberly S. Reardon of Peoria, Arizona, Jon R. (Sharon Mott) Reardon, Lee J. Reardon, Jil A. Reardon of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jay P. Reardon of Phoenix, Arizona; six Grandchildren: Ryan (Becky) Johnson, Kassie (Scot) Evans and Reid (Tricia) Johnson, Erin (Nick) Magina, John (fiancé Kristi Boutell) Reardon and Matthew Reardon; great-grandchildren, Harper and Cora Johnson, Brooks and Nolan Evans, Max and Brody Magina; special companion, Virginia Bushey, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Emily Reardon; brother, Peter; sisters, Patricia and Cecilia.

John’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre for the exceptional kindness and care they provided.
