John “Jack” William Butzow, age 84, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on May 17, 1932 to Edward and Hazel Butzow in Sycamore, IL.
Jack grew up in Sycamore and graduated from High School in 1951. As a child he spent many summers at the family cabin in Backus, MN on Sanborn Lake and eventually moved to Minnesota in the late 1950’s. Jack served in the US Army after high school and is a Korean War Veteran. Following his military service Jack went to work as a machinist at his uncle and father’s shop in Sycamore. He was a machinist and tool and die maker where he learned the craft that he truly enjoyed. He went on to work at various other companies over the years in the same trade.
Jack married Norma Kennedy in 1961 and was married for 55 years. They moved to Hopkins, MN where their two children Jane and Wayne were born. They moved to Walker in 1965 where he was a boiler engineer and Maintenance Supervisor at the Walker Hackensack Akeley School for 23 years until his retirement in 1992. Jack enjoyed several hobbies from woodworking to restoring vintage tractors, spending time with family and grandkids, camping, and fishing. He was known to many as the Jack of all trades.
The family that Jack is reunited with are his parents; Edward and Hazel Butzow, one brother; Edward Butzow Jr. and one granddaughter; Courtney.
He is survived by his wife; Norma, daughter; Jane Sautbine (Eric Eller) of Cloquet, MN, son; Wayne (Dawn) Butzow of Perrysburg, OH, three grandchildren; Aaron Reuter (Jen Pertulla), Tyler (Sara) Reuter, Paige Reuter (Adam Goff) and four great grandchildren; Brayden, Payten and Elsie Reuter and Harper Goff.
