John E. “Jack” Neumann, age 92, resident of Hamden passed away at CT Hospice in Branford on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Born on October 28, 1919 in New Haven, he was the son of the late Frederick H. and Winifred M. Orr Neumann. Jack served with the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict, as well as the National Guard, being honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. He received a bachelor’s degree from UCONN in 1950 with a degree in horticulture, beginning his career as a florist with Collins Floral Shop in Milford. He retired from United Nuclear Corporation after working for over 30 years as a nuclear criticality safety engineer. An active member of the New Haven Gem and Mineral Club, the New Haven Grays and Trout Unlimited, Jack also was an avid and talented fly fisherman, explorer and bridge player. Jack was known for his precise and contemplative nature and as an attentive, altruistic and loyal friend. A loving and dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be fondly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Nancy Neumann-Glasgow (John) of E. Haven, Barbara Harris (E. Carlton) of Guilford, Martha Powell (John) of FL, Tracy O’Connor of SC, Thomas P. Walbert (Suzanne) of GA, and Ruth Walbert Webb (William) of Wallingford: grandchildren, Carlton J. Harris (Erin), Matthew C., Brendan M. and Patrick M. Harris, Dianna E.[Harris] Carter (Aaron), Conor Webb, Siobhan O’Connor Gordon (Chris), Thomas C. and Danielle O’Connor, Michael Glasgow (Cindy), Sean Glasgow (Cheryl), Brennan Glasgow (Janice), David and Christopher Glasgow. Also eight great grandchildren, Jack’s dear friend Betty Wolf and many more devoted family members. Jack was predeceased by his first wife, Helna Lila McEvila Neumann, his second wife, Ruth E. Neumann and his son Timothy Walbert.
