John J. Grabowski, Jr., 83, retired sergeant from the City of Elizabeth Police Department, resided in Toms River, NJ. passed away on Thursday March 10, 2016 at his home. John was born in Shamokin, Pa. and lived in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to Toms River, NJ in 1995. He proudly served his country from 1949-1952,in the US Marine Corp. and fought in the Korean War. John joined the Elizabeth Police Dept. in 1957 and retired after 28 years of service in 1985. He then worked for Amex as the Supervisor of Security in Carteret, NJ for 10 years. John was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church where he was on the Holy Name Society and a former communicant of St. Genevieve RC Church in Elizabeth, NJ.
He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Inc, the Elizabeth Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local #4 and the Elizabeth Police Superior Officers Organization. John liked to sing with a barber shop group, golf and travel. Surviving is his loving wife Rosemary Grabowski; his children John J Grabowski III of Lawrenceville, NJ and his wife Donna, Anthony Grabowski of Woodbridge, NJ and his wife Laura, Deborah Mele of Bridgewater, NJ and her husband Michael and Karen Jaeckel of Kenilworth, NJ and her husband Brian; his sisters Rita Rafannelo and Rosemary Domingo both of Boca Raton, Fl; ten grandchildren and one great grandson.
