John J. Diaz of Carver, passed away at home on February 16, 2021 at the age of ninety-three. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernice (Johnson) Diaz. He was the father of Donna M. Diaz-Pereira and her husband Stephen, Cheryl A. Diaz-Freedman and her husband Alan, Susan M. Diaz-Diadato, Robert S. Diaz and the late Anthony Rapoza, Mary Jean Diaz-Botelho, Richard W. Diaz, Edward Diaz and Shawn Diaz. He leaves his daughter-in-law, Connie Rapoza and Donna Melanson Diaz. He leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the step-father of Mark McAuliffe and wife Judy, Barton McAuliffe and his wife Dale, Lisa Dempsey, and Cheryl Kozolowski. He was the brother of the Lena Van, Lillian Greene, Andrew Diaz, Jr., Dorothy Bates and the late Mabel Perry, Rita Diaz, Walter Diaz, Florence Raymond, Mary Baker, Pauline Pittsley and Edward Diaz. John was born on March 10, 1927 in Plymouth to Andrew and Emma (Silva) Diaz. He graduated from Plymouth High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and received the Victory World War II Medal. In his earlier years, John worked on the cranberry bogs in Carver, and at the Cordage Park Company and later as a heavy equipment operator for South Shore Pumping. He was a mechanic, had his crane license and learned how to weld at Stewart Brothers in Quincy. He enjoyed repairing clocks, riding his motorcycle, restoring antique automobiles and meeting his friends for breakfast.
