John J. Balvich, Sr., age 85, of Rensselaer passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Methodist Hospital Southlake in Merrillville, Indiana. Born in Chicago on June 11, 1926, he was the son of Joseph and Sophie (Kazukauskas) Balvich. He had lived n Spring Hill, Florida for 27 years, moving to Rensselaer 2 months ago.
John was married to Natalie Bohach Balvich who passed away April 21, 2011. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
John was a member of the St. Andrews Church in Spring Hill. He was retired from the State Farm Insurance Agency, Berwyn, Illinois, where he was an insurance agent.
Surviving are three sons, John (Arlene) Balvich, Jr., of Rensselaer, IN, James Balvich, of South Carolina, and Dr. Jordan (Elizabeth “Beth”) Balvich, of Rensselaer, IN, one daughter, Joan (Ron) Kane of Kansas City, MO; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren , two brothers, Joseph and Steven Balvich and one sister Albie Balvich. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Jeffrey, two brothers and one sister.
