John Irvin Walter passed away on June 6, 2016 after a courageous 2 year battle with leukemia.

John was born January 10, 1940 to Harold D and Julia P. Walter in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the second of 6 children. He graduated from Cokeville High School in 1958 and received a Diesel Mechanic Certification from Idaho State University in 1962. He married Sandra Oehrlein on May 28, 1976. John and Sandra celebrated 40 years of marriage on May 28, 2016.

After college, John spent his early years working with his father and brothers at the Walter Ranch, at Border. After the ranch was sold in 1974, he worked for Idaho Highway Department for a few years before moving to Kemmerer, Wyoming and began working at the FMC Skullpoint Mine as a mechanic and mechanic supervisor. In 1997 he and Sandra moved to Montpelier, Idaho where they built their retirement home including a large shop for John to pursue his hobbies. John loved restoring and working on his 1941 and 1962 jeeps, building trailers, fishing and hunting, camping, wood working and working in his yard and garden.

John is survived by his wife, Sandra and stepsons, Michael and James. He is also survived by two brothers, David and his wife, Cherie (Hood River, OR), Ivan Alan and his wife, Connie (Centennial, CO) and by sister, Kathryn (Portland, OR).

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold D and Julia P. Walter, brother, Frank and sister, Nancy Maria.
