John Henry Christian, 84, of 22 Starling Ave., Martinsville, VA died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his residence. Born September 21, 1926 in Tuscaloosa County, AL, he was a son of the late Levi W. Christian and Zula Barringer Abston Christian. Mr. Christian was the husband of Virginia Stephenson Christian who survives. He attended Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and had pastured in Alabama and North Carolina for more than 50 years and had taught high school in Alabama and had been a member of the Lions Club in Alabama and the Rotary in Georgia and had been the Historical Librarian for the Bryan-Lang Historical Library in Woodbine, GA. Mr. Christian had served in the United States Army and had graduated from the University of Alabama receiving a Masters and Doctorate in Theology. In addition to his wife of Martinsville, Mr. Christian is survived by two sons, John M. Christian of Martinsville and Dr. Timothy K. Christian of Albany, NY; two sisters, Evelyn Wench of Passchristian, MS and Genevia Scott of Whitsett, NC; two brothers, Dawson Christian of Northport, Al and Louis Christian of Coker, Al; three grandchildren, John Thaddeus Christian of Martinsville, Trina Silva of Dairy, New Hampshire and Timothy Marcus Christian of Lynchburg and by four great-grandchildren, Blake Silva, Contessa Silva, Bailey Silva and Seth Christian.
