John Frederick Smith was born on October 30, 1927 in Freeport, Illinois. His parents were Frederick Gund Smith and Violet Skroglund Smith. He passed away on November 8, 2014 at the Gables of Ammon in Idaho Falls. Fred graduated from the University of Utah at Logan and was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force base in Idaho. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf on his weekends. A year after his wife Oma died in Aiken, South Carolina, he moved to Idaho Falls near the golf course and continued with his love for the outdoor activities. During Fred’s work career he was one of three men selected to introduce the German made Wagner paint compressor to the USA. They worked with the U.S. paint manufacturers to reformulate American paint to work with the compressor. He was introduced to his current wife Carol thru mutual friends in the spring of 2007. On October 30, 2007, Fred’s children Rik and Annika had a surprise 80th birthday party for him. After a whirlwind courtship Fred and Carol were married on January 12, 2008. On January 14 they left on their honeymoon.
