We are sorry to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend John Francis Stanton. He died peacefully at home in the care of his loving family. Born on November 28, 1939, John was the first child of the late Donald Kerry Stanton and Alice Mary McLarney of New Britain. He was the loving husband and best friend of Patricia Stanton for 51 years. They lived in Southington until 2007, when they moved to Berlin. In addition to his wife, John is survived by two wonderful children who held a special place in his heart and two special grandchildren. Laura Stanton Simon, mother of Benjamin and Nathan Simon of Woodbridge, CT, John Robert Stanton, and favorite daughter-in-law Peggy Mukumbuta Stanton of Falls Church, VA. John treasured his family and through his actions, taught them how to grow in spirit and kindness. He was never too busy to help a friend or too poor to donate to a charity or a worthy cause. He was employed by the SNET until retiring after 30 years of service, after which he started his own business Stanton Telecommunications, where he found great satisfaction and pride until illness prevented his continuation after the age of 71. He was predeceased by his brother Peter Stanton, of Southington and sister, Kathleen Motyka of Berlin. He leaves a special friend and sister-in-law, Barbara Zmijewski, of Southington and an aunt Helen Stanton of Berlin, many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends. He leaves his faithful friends from the Breakfast Club and the ladies from the Luncheon Group, all of whom have been supportive and caring throughout his two year battle with cancer. We thank Dr. Timothy Hong at the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center for the wonderful care he provided and his nurses Karen and Kathy for their wit, tenderness and expertise.
