John F. Sullivan, 96, of 1931 Knox Rd. 200 E Galesburg, died at 2 a.m. on Wednesday July 11, 2007 at home.

John was born of April 28, 1911 in Galesburg the son of Timothy John and Catherine McGrath Sullivan. He married Margaret Gillen on November 21, 1944 in Monmouth. Surviving John are his wife Margaret of Galesburg; one son Timothy E. (Colleen) Sullivan of Galesburg; 4 daughters: Ann Sullivan, SP of St. Mary of the Woods, IN, Rebecca Sullivan of Galesburg, Julia Sullivan of Eden Prairie, MN, and Patricia (Patrick) Sullivan-Engelhaupt of Galesburg. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Catherine M. Sullivan and Rita L. Sullivan, and his brother Robert C. Sullivan.

John graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1928. He was a grain and livestock farmer his entire life, operating the family homestead, a recently designated Sesquicentennial Farm by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He was a member of Father J.O. Hunt Knights of Columbus Council No. 556. He was the first president of the Costa Catholic School Board and member of the Peoria Diocesan School Board. He served on numerous agriculture boards and received many agricultural awards, including Illinois Master Herdsman. He was a 4-H leader for 17 years, and was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
