John “Jack” F. Mageean, 89, of Silver Ridge Park North section of Berkeley Township died on Thursday February 28, 2013 at home. Born in Kearny, NJ, he raised his family in Union, NJ then lived in the West Point Island section of Lavallette, NJ before moving to Silver Ridge Park North in 1988. He was a graduate of Kearny High School, Kearny, NJ. Jack served in the US Army during WWII in Germany receiving the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

He was a Fire Fighter with the Union Fire Department for 25 years. After retiring Jack worked for The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals for over 20 years. Jack was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Township, NJ, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Union, NJ, the Silver Ridge Park North Bocce Club, where he was a Champ, Silver Ridge Park Men’s Club, the Holiday City Golf Club and the Retired Police and Fireman Association Local 8. He was an avid Golfer and had a Hole in One at Bey Lea Golf Club, Toms River, NJ Predeceased by his parents George Mageean and Ruth (Colleran) Mageean, his son Terrence, his brothers George and Thomas and also his sister Eleanor May.

Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years Elizabeth “Bette” (Gaynor), his son Jack and his wife Marylou of Toms River, NJ, his daughter Denise Mageean of Cedar Grove, NJ and also many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. To know Jack was to love Jack. He touched a lot of people’s hearts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
