John Eliassen, Sr., 78, of 144 North Fork Road, Martinsville, VA died on Monday, June 4, 2012 at his home. Born on December 15, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Mina Nilsen Eliassen and Otto Severn Eliassen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Swanee Andersen and step-father, Charles Werner. Mr. Eliassen served as Corpsman with the U. S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was formerly Manager of Langhorn Pharmacy in Salem, VA, Wickline Drugs in Collinsville, VA and SuperX Drugs in Martinsville and Danville. He was Production Manager for Bassett Walker/VF for sixteen years before retiring and a Past Master of Bassett Masonic Lodge #214. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sandra C. Eliassen; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan Cooper (Mark) of Archdale, NC and Carol Swing (Steve) of Plano, TX; son and daughter-in-law, John Eliassen, Jr. (Lisa) of Collinsville, VA; grandchildren, Denise Cooper Smith, April Cooper, Jeremy Swing, Matthew Swing, Mercedes Eliassen and Logan Eliassen and great-grandchildren, Alexi s Smith and Malachi Smith.
