John Edward Deeter (JED), age 74, Logansport, passed away at 11:19 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born February 7, 1944, in Logansport, he was the son of Walter and Irene Quinn Deeter.
He was married to Daisey Patrick, who preceded him in death on February 24, 2018.
John had been employed at Wilson Foods and later owned Deeter Fence Company..
Surviving are a daughter, Rena “Reener-Beaner” (husband, Joe T.) Magers; and James (wife, Angie) Nice, whom he thought of as his own children; grandchildren, Sara (Husband, Joey) Gibbs, Amber “Ellie May” Magers, Brandon “Bubby” Magers (Taylor Hayden), Kayla “Ethel” Magers (friend, Devon Richardson), Kaitlin “Lulu” Magers (Josh Johnson), Alexis Michelle Deeter (Nathan Nethercutt), Trista (husband, Daron) Weaver and Haley Nice; three brothers, one sister, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Also surviving are great grandchildren, Zachary Gibbs, Damian Gibbs, Gavin Gibbs, Kyland Magers, Laveah Smith, Maeki Smith, Aiden Magers, Gannon Magers and Brynleigh Weaver, He also was loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. All of his grandchildren and great grandchildren called him “Papaw”
John had “many girlfriends” but also had a special girlfriend, Donna Kreighbaum..
He was preceded in death by son, Jason E. “Jake” Deeter and one sister.
A very special man with the biggest heart, John loved his God and everyone also. He never met a stranger. In a sense he “adopted the world”. At the nursing home and hospital, he would declare that it was “National Hug Day” and would receive hugs from everyone, from the custodial staff to nurses and doctors. He especially enjoyed his friends and time spent at Bruce Lake.
His classic expression was “I love you better than a hog loves slop, a whole herd of hogs – forever and ever.”
John’s favorite bible verse was John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
He served his country as a United States Army veteran.
