John D. Anderson, 85, of Plymouth, MA and formerly of Stoughton, MA passed away peacefully in his home with his family lovingly around him, just as he was the loving husband of 36 years of Marybeth Greene Anderson and devoted father to Kathleen Williams (Michael) of Snohomish, WA, Karen Milleson (Russ) of Portland, OR, and Greg Anderson (Jenna) of East Sandwich, MA. John is brother to Richard L. Anderson of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts and is predeceased by his older brother Leonard Anderson of Walpole, father Axel Lenart (Len) and Grace Anderson of Stoughton. Among his greatest joys was being an adoring grandfather to Chelsea, Blair, Mia, Tucker, Logan, Kati, Deonne, Jack, and Ashley and great-grandfather to in Boston in 1936, John was raised in Stoughton, Massachusetts where he attended the Stoughton Public Schools and graduated in 1954. He attended the Henry O. Peabody cooking school in Norwood and in the early 1960’s he moved to Hanover, New Hampshire to become a cook at the Hanover Inn. It was there that he raised his three children with his first wife Connie Anderson and started and operated the Hanover Floor Care company. John served as Bail Commissioner and Assistant Clerk of Hanover (New Hampshire) District Court and was also a Justice of the Peace, volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the town of Hanover. John was employed by Allston Supply Company of Springfield, Massachusetts where he was Regional Sales Manager for New Hampshire and Vermont. In 1982, he returned to reside in Stoughton where he worked for W. T. Graham Company in Boston as Vice President Operations. Prior to his retirement in 2000, John was employed by Standardized Sanitation Systems, of Billerica where he was Director of Purchasing for the nationwide wholesale custodial supply corporation. Most notably in his professional life, but equally so in his personal life, John gave generously of his time to those who sought his mentorship and guidance, be it professionally, personally, or was a driven and fiercely loyal civic leader and has led a life of serving the community in which he lives with consistency and tireless commitment. He is known to always consider forward-thinking possibilities and not settle for the status quo. John holds the distinct honor of being one of only four Stoughton residents during the last 60 years to have been elected to both the School Committee (1991) and Board of Selectman (2009) during their lifetime. He was Town Meeting Representative in Precinct 3 and 4 and served as Stoughton Representative on the Norfolk County Advisory Board, the Stoughton Council on Aging Board of Directors, and Board of Advisors. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. James Catholic Church in and Marybeth enjoyed their time together with friends and family in Hull, Massachusetts for many years and while they traveled to places all over, for him it wasn’t necessarily where he was, but who he was with that really mattered. He experienced great joy with his children doing such things as watching baseball and football games (even once in person at a Super Bowl), driving across the country, playing golf, hosting spectacular St. Patrick’s Day parties, and attending countless weddings and relationship to Marybeth was more than a marriage. It was about true love, companionship, being partners in faith, loving parents, and tireless advocates for each other.
