John Dester Stewart, Jr. John Dester Stewart, Jr. (66) of Manassas died Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Remington surrounded by family after a seven-month battle with cancer. Born January 9, 1950, in Raleigh, North Carolina, he lived on military bases across the country before settling in Arlington, Virginia in the late 1960s. After working for several years in various service jobs, he became an apprentice locksmith at Rollins Lock and Safe. John, along with his wife, opened Sterling Lock and Key in the 1970s, Econolock in the 1980s, and Patriot Locksmith Academy in the 2000s. He continued locksmithing until 2015 as a member of the IUOE local #99 Union and AECOM. John took great joy in his locksmithing work, his family, tinkering with computers and electronics, the Washington Redskins, bluegrass music, traveling to tropical locations, scenic drives, entrepreneurship, and teaching. He took great pride in his family and friendships, and always encouraged those in his life to “Think positive!” He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Teresa E. Stewart; his children, James Stewart, Christina Carter, and Angelina Camacho (Adam); granddaughters, Daniella Stewart and Emma Carter; grandsons, Jonathan Stewart, Jimmy Carter and Yanixan Stewart and his sisters Donna Kraynak (Dale) and Deborah Morris (Larry).
