John Desmond, 83, of Three Oaks, Michigan died peacefully at his home on Sunday afternoon, January 31, 2010. John was born February 10, 1926 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to John and Merlinde (Keller) Desmond. He graduated in 1944 from Niles Center High School in Skokie, Illinois, and that same year joined the United States Army. John served his country as an advisor to the Chinese Army.

He also served with the 5th Army Escort Service stationed at Fort Sheridan. John was employed at the John Deere Plant in Battle Creek, Michigan and then at Bell and Howell in Illinois. On July 15, 1980 he married Eleanor Stanage in Rock Springs, Wyoming. John loved traveling, camping, gardening and reading. He was a member of the Randall Couchman American Legion Post # 204 in Three Oaks and the Galien Woods Historical Society. He was also a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Three Oaks and attended the Saturday morning men’s prayer group at St. Agnes Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; brother, James Desmond of Libertyville, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Prinzing of Chelsea, Michigan and Shirley Ripley of Charlotte, Michigan and many nieces and nephews. His sister, Mary Goring, preceded him in death.
