John Custer, Jr., 84, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at his Fairmount, Indiana residence.
John was born on November 10, 1932 in Hamilton, Pennsylvania, son of the late John W. and Gladys (Smith) Custer. He graduated from Punxsutawney High School in Pennsylvania and also attended Taylor University for two years.
John served in the National Guard and was stationed in Germany while in the Army. John retired as a supervisor from General Motors in 1988 where he had worked for 31 years.
John was a faithful member of Fairmount Wesleyan Church. John had a passion for spreading the gospel through the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Gideons. He raised over $62,000 for the Christian Motorcycles Run for the Son. He had been a member since 1985. Besides loving to spend time with his family and ride motorcycles he loved to hunt and cut wood.
John is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna S. (Hardin) Custer,children; Winona Farr, Jonesboro, IN, Beth (Bob) Bartlett, Tipton, IN,Vonda(Tim) Hanson, Marion, IN, Mike (Michelle) Moore, Fairmount, IN, Marsha Campbell, Peru, IN, and Kimberly (David) Coxson, Hubbard, OH, Sherrill (Rodney) Howard, Van Buren, IN., 20 grandchildren, 9 Great-grandchildren, and sister Helen Lewis, Sharon, PA.
John was preceded in death by his son Wesley Custer, sons-in-laws, Paul (PK) Farr, Jr. and Bob Campbell, brothers Glen and Wayne Custer, and sister Donna Hoover.
