John C. Mayo, Jr., age 90 of Trussville, Alabama. John was born in Tarrant City, Alabama, to Thelma and J.C. Mayo, Sr., on December 9, 1926. After a brief stint playing football at Auburn University, he joined the Navy and served in the Philippines during World War II. He graduated from Howard College (Samford) in 1949. He worked for the B.F. Goodrich Company for several years before establishing his own business, Mayo Tire Company. He was a member of South Roebuck Baptist Church. He enjoyed golf, Auburn football, Westerns, and teaching Sunday School. He is survived by his son, John P. Mayo (Ellen) of Nashville, Tennessee, and his daughter, Donna Mayo (Forrest Duncan) of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Bradley Mayo, Mimi Mayo Beaver, Anna Mayo Jacques, Gray Vargas, Camille Candresse, Caroline Duncan, and Graham Duncan; four great-grandchildren, Ellie Beaver, Zoe Szedlmayer, Sophie Jacques, and Emmie Beaver; his nephew Goode Price III; nieces Nancy Carolyn Price and Laverne Aders Pruet; and son-in-law Thierry Candresse. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Maxie Price and Helen Aders, his wife Patty Bradley Mayo, his daughter, Kathryn Mayo Candresse, and his niece, Sherry Aders Huffstutler. The family would like to express special thanks to John’s dear friend and tireless caregiver, Chong Quick, for her love and companionship during his final years.
