John was born July 14, 1945 in Torrington, and was son to the late Lawrence F. and Ruth (Maine) Duffany.

For many years, John was a ski instructor at Mohawk Ski Mountain. Teaching children and adults to love the sport brought him tremendous joy. He also loved to play golf and was a long time member of the Pequabuck Golf Club where he (mostly!) enjoyed the activity.

John was a gifted writer and musician. He wrote and performed songs for each of his children’s weddings and was often found in front of his piano tickling the ivories.  His talent and love for music brought everyone around him into harmony. In July 2018, John fulfilled his lifelong dream and published a children’s book inspired by his grandchildren.

John enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. He loved to learn and experience different cultures and traditions. After he retired, John continued the beautification of his yard and home. He and Kathy spent winters in Florida, to escape the cold and always called to remind their children just how warm it was where they were.

John took great pride instilling the importance of family and traditions to his children and grandchildren.

He will be best remembered for the love of his family, his great sense of humor, and his desire to make those around him smile. John was a fun-loving person who enjoyed his friendships immensely, always appreciated a good laugh, and was the quintessential jokester.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Sean E. Duffany and his wife Joy of Prospect, Erin D. Benvegnu and her husband Felipe of Watertown, and Shannon R.
