Obituary of John Bond Parker, Jr. Passed in Reston Hospital, Virginia of lung cancer on Sunday morning. He was 82 years old John grew up on a farm in Windsor, NC with his father John Bond Parker Sr., his mother Alene McCall Parker and younger brother Edwin. He also sojourned with a very loving extended family and his beloved nanny, Laura Cherry. The Parker farm has been in the family for generations and remained dear to John his whole life. In his youth he won many 4H state fair awards and played fullback on his high school and college football teams. After finishing a bachelor’s degree at North Carolina State he went to Washington, D.C. where he joined the U.S.D.A. John worked for the Economic Research Service (ERS) and Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and was assigned to Cairo, Egypt where he met and married Seija. Seija was working for the Finnish Embassy. They had many adventures together for 51 happily married years. They moved from Egypt in the early years of their marriage and returned to the Washington, D.C. area. While raising the family John earned his Master’s of Business Administration and continued his focus study on international trade and agricultural economics. He worked for the U.S. federal government for over 38 years as an economist doing research and reports for various agencies. He was also on loan for the United Nations and did several F.A.O. missions. He had hundreds of published articles in international trade journals and magazines. His greatest accomplishments were being a very loved and wonderful father and husband. He is survived by his wife Seija and their children: Sylvia and her husband Stephen and their four children Valery, Anya, Nik, and Anastasia; Valerie, her daughter Erika; his son Eric; Alexandra and her husband James and their daughter Morgan. Service will be August 6, 2016 at the: The Church of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Oakton Stake Center 2719 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, VA 22124 Viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Service will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Lunch served afterwards August 13th – Windsor, NC – Burial Service in the Parker Family Graveyard.
