John B. McBennett, age 72, of Norwalk and West Harwich, MA, died at the Norwalk Hospital on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. He was the devoted husband for 47 years of Marie Aquino McBennett. John was born in the Bronx, NY on August 20, 1938, son of the late Patrick and Rose Haughey McBennett. He has been in the finance industry all of his working life and retired as a controller for Perkin-Elmer. John was a graduate of Norwalk High School, Class of 1956 and Providence College, Class of 1960 and served in the U.S. Army for two years before his career in finance. An avid golfer, he was a member of Shore & Country Club, the Silvermine Golf Club and the Cranbury Valley Golf Club in W. Harwich, MA. John served on the Planning and Zoning Committee and the Pension Board for the city of Norwalk, the finance committee at St.
In addition to his wife Marie, John is survived by his four loving daughters, Lauren Mappa (Larry) of Fairfield, Linda Miller (Lane) of Denver, CO, Christine Malcarney (Chris) of Philadelphia, PA, and Ellen Ivory (Tom) of Elkins Park, PA. Also surviving are John’s siblings Patrick McBennett, Mary Furmanek, Eileen Callahan and Ann Karas, his 10 beloved grandchildren; Carly, Jack and Roey Mappa, Casey and Owen Miller, Matthew and Maura Malcarney, John, Finn and Eamon Ivory, and many nieces and nephews.
