John A. Boarman, was born 31 March, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana and died there on 17 December, 2021, following an exciting and full life of 82 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes (Dugan) Boarman; his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Hornberger) Boarman; and his brother, Gerald Boarman.

The cause of his passing is not an important issue.  What is more important is to note what mark was left, if any, on those who came in contact with him, on his journey back to his Creator.

After graduation from Sacred Heart Central High School, he graduated from Butler University College of Pharmacy.  He received a direct commission, signed by the President, to serve in the United States Air Force, Strategic Air Command as an Officer in Hospital Administration and as Hospital Squadron Commander.

He embraced diversity and inspired many young people, that he met, to pursue their dreams thru education beyond high school and to always remember, “you are special, you are unique, you are #1.”

The Indianapolis 500 Mile Race had a strong hold on him.  Having started going in 1947, at age 8, with his Dad.  They went 33 consecutive years until his Dad passed away.  He carried on the tradition with his two sons, each starting at Age 8.  Now in our third generation continuing with his grandchildren as they turn age 8.  He went to 72 consecutive 500 Mile Races with 26 May, 2016 being the last race he attended.  He was an avid fan of football and basketball at the high school and college level.  He loved playing basketball, and in later years, doing shooting drills.  He also loved hiking in the Rockies and hiking on short trips on the Appalachian Trail.

His greatest accomplishment was marrying his best friend, his partner, his love and confidant, is, was, and always will be, his wife, Mary Ann (Hornberger).  They were married for 55 wonderful years.  This accomplishment was followed closely by his love for his two sons, his two daughters-in-law, his five grandchildren and his many friends.

He will greatly miss his children, John (Molly) Boarman and Mike (Stephanie) Boarman.

He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, supportive father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend; and for his optimism, strength of character, trustworthiness and sense of humor.
