JOE A. GARCIA, 75 , a lifelong resident of Deming passed away Saturday January 21, 2012 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home surrounded by his family.

Joe was born November 17, 1936 in Hatch, New Mexico to Jose O. and Josefina Arrey Garcia. After his High School graduation Joe entered the United State Army and upon his return he went to the Police Academy which began a lifelong career in public service. He began as a Police Officer in El Paso and afterward came back to Deming working with the Deming Police Department. Later he took the position of Chief of Police in Hatch which he held for several years before going to work at the Roswell Corrections Facility and eventually at the Las Cruces Detention Center.

Upon retiring he was still active locally in his service to the community while working as a Security Officer at the Mimbres Memorial Hospital and WalMart. Joe was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ofelia G. Garcia of Deming; children, Ubaldo Garcia (Estella) of Houston, TX, Daniel Garcia of Mesa, AZ, Benny Garcia, Betty Quiroz, Luis Garcia, Patricia Sandoval (Benjamin Jr.) all of Deming, Joe Garcia, Teresa Gutierrez, Rosemary Martincigh, Stevie Garcia, Janet Oracon, and David and Charles Garcia; brothers, Tony Garcia, Juan and Frankie Garcia; sisters, Ernestina Saenz, Guadalupe Sanchez, Bertha Garcia, 26 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
