Joannis Pistis of Dumont was 103 years old when he passed away peacefully Sunday July, 5th. Joannis was born in Kyrenia, Cyprus where he lived until the age of 18. He then set out to England where he would later serve in the British Army from 1941 to 1946. In 1947 he came to the United States only to move back to Cyprus to marry Efthyia Yettimi in 1949. After the couple were married they moved back to New York City. They would later leave New York City to settle in New Jersey in 1978. Joannis was a Chef for many major hotels and restaurants in New York City for many years, some of the notable places he cooked where the Waldorf Astoria and the Westside Tennis Club.
Joannis was predeceased by his late wife Efthyia (nee Yettimi). He was the loving father of George Pistis and his wife Martina and Charles and his wife Karen. He was the cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Stacey, Jonathan, Michael, and Sabrina and the great-grandfather of Raymond, Gisela, Theo, Alexandria, and Emaleigh.
