JoAnne McKnight Underwood, 58, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Piedmont Hospital in Newnan, GA. She was born on December 20, 1959 in Newnan to the late Paul McKnight Jr. & Totsie Carrasco McKnight.
Mrs. Underwood grew up in Senoia and was a graduate of East Coweta High School and The University of West Georgia with her masters degree in Education. She was a devoted kindergarten teacher teaching at Eastside Elementary and Thomas Crossroads Elementary for 33 years. She was awarded teacher of the year twice during her career. She served as a member in the Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Educators. Mrs. Underwood was active member at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering locally with children’s activities. She served on the board for the East Coweta Marching Indians and East Coweta Gridiron Club Board Member.
JoAnne’s gentle spirit and calm demeanor never faltered during her illness. Her will to keep going and her positive spirit was an inspiration to her entire family.
She is preceded in death by her parents , Paul McKnight Jr. & Totsie Carrasco McKnight; her sister Margaret McKnight of Senoia, and her niece Monica McKnight Lovett of Newnan.
She survived by her husband Bill Underwood of Senoia; her children Mallory (Chris) Reynolds of Hogansville, Will Underwood of Senoia; siblings, Ray (Julianne) McKnight of Newnan, Carl (Jill) McKnight of Senoia, Alice (Chris) Ramsey of Brooks, Jim McKnight of Senoia; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Steve) Alter of Marietta, Matt Lovett of Newnan, Mac, Carly, & Macy McKnight of Senoia, Jay McKnight of Senoia; great- nieces and nephews, Bailey & Drew Alter of Marietta, Jett & Mattie Louise Lovett of Newnan.
