Joanne (Aussem) Landers, 77, passed away Sunday morning of July 14, 2019, at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Joanne was born on January 25, 1942, in Ottawa to George and Theresa (Dekreon) Aussem.

She married Dale Landers on November 29, 1969, at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. Joanne graduated from St. Xavier College and began her teaching career in Streator in 1965. During this time, she was able to earn her Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. After getting married and starting a family, she took some time off to raise her two boys, Michael and Mark. She returned to teaching in 1976 and accepted a position at St. Columba Grade School (Marquette Academy). She retired in 2014 after 38 years. Mrs. Landers was a beloved teacher by many generations of students. She was a member of St. Columba Church, Catholic Daughters, Xi Alpha Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Joanne Landers loved teaching, QVC, and Walt Disney World but most of all she loved her family. She spent her time caring for generations of kindergarten students and ensuring her grandchildren were always spoiled. As author Robert Fulghum said best, “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” and we all learned from the best. She was truly one of a kind.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Jodie) Landers and Mark (Sonya) Landers, both of Ottawa, and 7 grandchildren, Maggie, Keegan, Avery, Addison, Grace, Kate, and Evan, and one brother, Michael Aussem of Ottawa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale, on May 25, 2012, and a grandson, Lane Landers.
