Joan Ruth Nossaman was born January 3, 1941, to Myron and Cordelia (Van Zante) Nollen, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She attended country school and was a 1959 graduate of Pella High School.
On August 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Lee Nossaman. To this union they were blessed with two sons: Richard and David.
Joan was a loving farm wife. She raised hogs, drove tractor and delivered meals. She was the state President of Iowa Porkettes from 1988 – 1989, and a member of Iowa Pork Producers Board. She also enjoyed upholstery and taught upholstery classes.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Myron and Cordelia Nollen, and her infant sister Mary Lynn Nollen.
