Joan F. Mahan (nee Walsh), of O’Fallon, IL, born September 6, 1959 in Joliet, IL, passed away in her home on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in O’Fallon, IL at the age of 54. Born and raised in Wilmington IL, she graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a degree in Physical therapy. She worked in her field until an automobile accident forced her to be medically retried in 1999. Later she started working for CASA as a Child Advocate case worker going above and beyond her job description to help the children. Recently, this year she earned a second degree from Southwestern Illinois College in social studies, and also worked for High Desert Medical Center where she earned the outstanding employee award.
She is preceded in death by both her parents Gordon & Dorothy (nee Wilm) Walsh of Wilmington, IL. Joan is survived by her husband Barry Mahan, 4 children; Anna & Benjaman Henning of O’Fallon, IL, Michael & Alyson Mahan of Washington, Jacob Mahan Texas, Cameo Mahan of St. Peters, MO; a brother Thomas Walsh of Ottawa, IL, and also by 5 grandchildren.
