Joan Lorraine Saunders Thurman, 73 of 223 Bel Air Dr., Danville, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 while a patient of Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville. Born October 15, 1938 to the late Barbara Cox Saunders and the late Elvin Lindsey Saunders, Mrs. Thurman was married to Earl Thurman of the residence for 56 years. Mrs. Thurman was a member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church of Martinsville, VA and was an avid bingo player. She loved playing bingo with her friends. She previously worked for Danville Regional Medical Center as a secretary in the Admitting Office/Emergency Room. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thurman is survived by four sons: Jim Thurman and wife Betsy, Rev. Bob Thurman and wife Melissa, John Thurman and wife Jennifer and Donnie Thurman, all of Danville: two sisters; Dorothy Ignacki and husband Steve of Chatham, VA and Clara Charmello and husband Mike of Danville: twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thurman is predeceased by one brother, James Lindsay Saunders, Jr.
