After a short illness, Joan Houston, age 88, left this earth peacefully, held in the love of her family. She was an intelligent, capable, curious woman… stubborn, independent and practical. Joan traveled to six of the seven continents, loving the world travel and international cuisine. She was a voracious reader… always interested in learning about other cultures and people. She loved football, opera, her cats, and colorful clothing and unique jewelry. Joan was generous and supportive of her sons and their families, eager to applaud their talents and achievements, always interested in their lives and adventures. Joan embraced life, doing things her way and in her own style. A light has gone out here, but it shines elsewhere.
Joan Houston was born in Dallas, TX on September 14, 1927. She died August 9, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Alma Leach; her husband, Charles Edward Houston; and three sisters, Luella Long, Geraldine Orr, and her twin, Jean Bell. She is survived by her four sons, Paul (Teresa) and Joseph in Albuquerque, William (Joann) in Los Angeles, and David in Seattle. She is survived also by her sister, Marjorie Dauterive in Dallas, TX, as well as by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in California, New Mexico, Arizona, Missouri and Texas. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and dear friends around the world, many of whom she met through her sons and maintained contact with throughout her life.
