Joan Catherine (Kriese) Bunte, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021.  She was born on December 22, 1955 in Indianapolis, to the late Maurice August and Thelma Theresa (Springman) Kriese.  

Joan graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, class of 1974, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from IUPUI.

Joan was a beloved teacher with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for over 15 years and was a Certified Tennis Instructor for the Indianapolis Tennis Center.  She was a member of Holy Rosary parish.  She was a published author with her daughter-in-law, Alison Madden, of the story “Fred & Fiona Flea: The Crown Jewels Caper.”  

She will be remembered by family, friends, and former students for her generosity, warmth, and commitment to the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her children, Martin (Ann) Madden, Peter (Alison) Madden and Anne Bunte; brothers, Tom (Maureen), Chuck (Claire), Joe (Debbie) and Fritz (Nancy) Kriese; grandchildren, Eleanor, Evelyn, Teddy, Charles, Catherine and George Madden.  She was preceded in death by her husband, David Bunte; and sister, Claire Kriese.
