Fanny Jo Whalen Hunt passed away in the comforts of her home after a battle with cancer on February 2, 2012, in Fredonia, AZ. Fanny Jo, know to all as Jo, was born in Butlers Saw Mill, Flagstaff, Arizona on May 16, 1933 to Oma Gordon and John Lewis Whalen.
Jo resided in the Flagstaff and Williams, Arizona area most of her life. She worked as a waitress, switchboard operator, and also worked for the Kaibab Forest Service in Fredonia.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents John Lewis Whalen and Oma Gordon Whalen, sister Mae Hayes, and brother Dave Whalen.
She is survived by her husband Larry Ross Hunt; siblings Martha Glaspie and Edith Woody; children Bill Jo and Denise Arnold of Houston, TX, Laura Lee and Glen Whited of Snowflake, AZ, L. Ross and Lorie Hunt of Fredonia, AZ, Natalie and Darwin Lothert of Belview, MN, and Glen Alan and Irene Hunt of Snowflake, AZ. She had 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
If the activity was outdoors, Jo was in her environment. Camping and fishing were her favorite past times. Her favorite place to be was camping in her trailer. She loved going on hunting trips with her family.
Jo was a woman of many talents and was not afraid to learn a new skill. She was known in the family for her woven rugs, crochet crafts and dream catchers. She loved to garden and was the “Go-to-Gal” if you had a question. If it was able to be canned, she knew how to can it. Jo enjoyed every minute she could get with her grand and great grandchildren. She loved being around her family. Family Reunions were the highlight of her year and she would start planning her trips months in advance.
