Jo Anne Beard, 77, of Jacksonville, IL died Monday, January 5, 2009 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born July 9, 1931 in Hayden, AZ; the daughter of Byron L. and Blanche Treadway Beard.

She is survived by a sister, Jane Baxter (husband, George) of Crestwood, MO; three nephews, William, Steve and John Baxter; two nieces, Debbie Pace and Alicia Slaughter; a good friend, Helen Baldwin; and her dog, Meggie. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Beard (surviving wife, Shirley of Missouri).

Jo was a school teacher having spent the majority of her teaching career with the St. Louis, MO Public Schools. After retiring to Jacksonville, she was very involved in collecting antiques along with researching and writing historical accounts. She authored a book entitled â??Legacy of Historic Jacksonvilleâ? on behalf of the City of Jacksonville and has completed numerous historical home descriptions. She has passionately worked behind the scenes to benefit the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission. She has been involved with the â??Save The Rectoryâ? Committee and served as a consultant for the placement of numerous historic homes on the National Register.
