Obituary of Jimmy Chain

Mr. Chain, 65, died February 23, 2005 at 2:45 PM at his home. He was born June 28, 1939 in Oak Grove, LA, but lived the majority of his life in Bastrop, LA. He was baptized into the membership of Bethel Baptist Church on December 10, 1949, at the age of 10, where he continued as a member for 56 years.

Jimmy served a tour of duty in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960. Upon his return home, he was employes by International Paper, Bastrop Mill, from 1960 to 1963. He then worked for Worley Butane Service from 1963 to 1977. He was a loving husband to his wife, Juanita Crumley, who he married June 1, 1961, and wonderful father to their three sons, Kevin Gerald, Jim Hardy, and Heath Allen.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Juanita Crumley, on October 29, 1997, and his parents, George P. and Velma Hogue Chain, on December 25, 2002 and April 10, 1990, respectively.

Survivors include his sons and their families; Kevin Gerald and Lisa Stanley Chain and their daughter Jennifer; Jim Hardy and Kristine Brown Chain and their son Kristopher, and Heath Allen and Pamela Cross Chain and their four sons; Heath Tyler, Luke Payton, Ryan Alan and Joey Leighton.

He is also survived by a brother, George A. Chain and wife Ruth of West Monroe, LA and three sisters; Shelvia Chain Crook and husband Tom, Shirley Chain Richards and husband Buddy, and Dottie Chain Musgrove and husband Butch, all of Bastrop, LA.

Two uncles also survive Jimmy; Hardy Brown Chain of Weatherford, TX, and Carl Kenny Chain and wife Lou Etta of Bastrop, LA. He is also survived by one aunt, Dorothy Chain Choate of Rolling Fork, MS, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

During the course of Jimmy’s illness, many friends have visited and brought food to him, and his sons would like to give special thanks to Charles and Libba Moore, Johnny and Ann Hughes, R.e. and Nadine Tarver and Craig and Jan Oliphant for the friendship and loving care they have bestowed upon their father.

Special thanks also go to Dr. David Raines and his assistant Leighnae Poole of the Gastroenterology Clinic for the wonderful care they have given Jimmy over the past three and one-half years. Also, many thanks to the Hospice Care of Louisiana personnel, especially Anita, Angela, and Rev. James Parker.
