Jimmy Leroy Haremza age 87 died, April 22, 2022. Born June 9, 1934, in Colby, Kansas. He was the 4th son of Benjamin and Velma (Makings) Haremza. He was raised a Kansas wheat farmer and often talked of his family roots on the farm. Jim graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1952. He married Shirley Jean Wishon on October 1, 1955. They began their married life by moving to California that same day. He began his career working for the phone company as a lineman. He was proud of being able to climb a telephone pole and never failed to share the story of how he fell from a pole and did not get hurt. He was a veteran of the US Army having served for just under three years. He joined the US Army in 1956 and was stationed in Fort Devens Massachusetts and Clark Airforce Base Philippines as a Specialist 4 specializing in Morse Intel Communications. He returned to California to work for a few more years for the phone company. Jim and His family moved to Colorado Springs to work for Mountain Bell in 1963, to Salida in 1974 and finally to Grand Junction Colorado in 1978. He retired in 1987 as a manager for Mountain Bell.
Jim and Shirley then began refurbishing homes to begin a rental business as 2nd careers. They enjoyed being snowbirds in Sandpoint Arizona for about 20 years with many friends at their side. Jim was a kind loving man who is deeply devoted to his wife Shirley, 3 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a great friend to many people and always willing to help anyway possible. He had a great sense of humor that often left you wondering if he was pulling your leg. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, faithful friend, awesome uncle, and a man of great integrity. He will be greatly missed by many people.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of 66 1/2 years, children Sandy (Mike) Maranville, Mary Haremza, Jim (Kris) Haremza, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 6 brothers.
