Jim Skelly passed away peacefully at age 81, on November 3, 2015. Jim was born in New York City and grew up in east Yonkers, N.Y. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, then served in the United States Army. He married the beautiful Joan Marie Udell in 1956 and they lived in the Bronx. Making what he called “the best move of (his) life,” Jim and Joan moved with their two young sons to Phoenix arriving on April Fools’ Day, 1963, with $70 in their pockets, a paid-up car and no jobs. Jim worked any job he could get. In 1970 he ran for the state legislature and served in the Arizona State House of Representatives for twenty years. “St. Joanie” passed away on February 21, 2012, and every day thereafter Jim looked forward to the day they would meet up again in heaven. Jim is survived by his sons, Chris and Jim, and his grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Matt, Theresa, Claire, Joe, Danny and John. A special “Thank you” to Jim’s dear friend, Msr. Tom Hever, and to Therese Skelly who were there with Chris and Jim and their father at the end.
