Jim H. Harrell, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 9, 2009, at his home in Fort Walton Beach. He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mary Harrell (Cox), in 2007.

Jim was born in Valdosta, Georgia and was a graduate of Valdosta High School in 1944. He later graduated Junior College in 1946.

 

Mr. Harrell served in the U. S. Navy from 1946 until 1950 and also in the U. S. Air Force Reserves from 1955-1958. In 1946 he married Hazel Edna Harrell and together they had a son, Robert W. Harrell in 1953.

 

 

He enjoyed coin collecting since his youth and became a coin dealer, on a part time basis, in 1962. After his retirement, he worked as a coin dealer full time, owning his own shop locally for 11 years.

 

Jim has several step-children, which he thinks of as his own; Analou Eisner, Carol Berk, Terry Emley, and Alan Cox, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren
