Harry James “Jim” Grant, 88, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born May 8, 1923, in Stonington, the son of Harry J. and Edythe Crowder Grant. He married Wanda L. Whitlow on July 24, 1949, in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on Mar. 5, 2002. He later married Sharon Edmonson on Oct. 22, 2004, in Jacksonville.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; several nieces and nephews; and by Sharon’s children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Shelby; and three sisters.

Mr. Grant was a 1941 graduate of Taylorville High School. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps and attending aviation school. Following his discharge, he attended mortuary school and became a licensed funeral director. He then worked 32 years for Burroughs Corporation, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement, he worked for Cody & Son Memorial Home for over 20 years. Jim was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving on all boards and singing in the choir for many years. He was also a member of Mound Lodge AF & AM, Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, and Elks Club, and was a longtime active member of the Jacksonville YMCA. He enjoyed barbershop singing with The Ferris Wheelers and loved traveling, dancing, music, and theatre. Jim truly enjoyed life.
