Jessie Perkins Tate, 77, of 104 North Music St., Gretna, formerly of Danville died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in Lynchburg General Hospital. Born July 18, 1932 in Alamance County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Elisha Enoch Perkins and Willie Mae Somers Perkins. She was married to the late Archie Whitt Tate, Jr. She was a member of Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses both in Gretna and in Danville. She formerly worked as a spinner for Dan River Inc. for a number of years and also Dollar General. Mrs. Tate was a self proclaimed people lover who loved flea marketing and was known for selling homemade pork skins. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia T. King and Sheila T. Roach and husband, Phillip, all of Gretna; her son, Rick Perkins and wife, Sheryl of Hurt, her step-sons, Randal Tate and Barry Shotwell, both of Delaware; and sister, Geneva Gammon of Reidsville, NC. Her grandchildren are Deana Tate and Ricky Tate, Jr., Gary and Mikie Tate, Courtney Foster, Joshua King, Steven and Brian Tate, Matthew and Esther Shallenberger, Mallory Jamerson, Carrington Roach and Heather Short. Her great-grandchildren are Kenley and Bella Foster, Lily and Hudson King, Levi Shallenberger, Abby and Eliza Short, Jesse and Amber Tate.
