Manchester/Farmington – Jessie M. DeMay, 100, of Palmyra, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at MM Ewing Continuing Care Center.
She received her education at the one-room schoolhouse at the corner of Fox Road and County Road 28 in Palmyra. Jessie and her husband, Maynard, were life-long dairy farmers. She was always actively involved in the family farm. Driving tractor, hauling cattle, and raising the many calves born on the farm were all part of her daily activities.
Their dairy herd of registered Brown Swiss cattle was a source of great pride as they received awards at many state and national cattle shows. In her “spare” time, Jessie drove a school bus for Palmyra-Macedon Central School District for 20 years.
For many years, she was active in the Palmyra Methodist Church and was involved in the annual pie sale, the finance committee, and many other roles and responsibilities. Jessie was a fiercely independent woman who lived life on her terms.
Jessie is survived by her children Gordon (Kathy) DeMay of Palmyra, Linda (Jon) Holbrook of Canandaigua and Beanie (Larry) Hill of Falconer, NY; as well as her grandchildren David (Lesli) Dreesen, Emily (Wayne) Harvey, Bradley Dreesen, Jason (Amber) DeMay, Eric (Kim) Gentry, Amanda DeMay-Shaffer, and Kelly DeMay (Jeremy Valentine); and many great grandchildren.
