Ms. Webb peacefully passed away at a local hospital.

Viewing is Tuesday, November 5th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mortuary.

Jessie B. Webb was born July 7, 1921 in Robinsonville, Mississippi. She was the second of seven children and the oldest girl born to Daniel Webster and Laura Smith Webster. Jessie accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was baptized by a family pastor in a small lake along with five of her siblings. She received her formal education through the public school system in Robinsonville.

After the death of her parents, Jessie took on the role of parenting her five sisters and her only brother. Jessie and her siblings later moved to Memphis, Tennessee, afterwards, to Battle Creek, Michigan, where she met and married Milton Webb. Their union was blessed with five beautiful children, Mable, Marie, Michael, Sheri and Gary. In 1964, the family moved to San Diego, California, making it their permanent residence.

Shortly after her arrival to San Diego, Jessie began working at Fields Dry Cleaners and eventually numerous restaurants. Jessie, who had been cooking all her life, shared her skills at Johnson’s Restaurant, the Love Nest and the famous Pre & Jessie’s Soul Food. You name it and Jessie cooked it. She cooked for local politicians, the San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, policemen and firemen and even the renowned James Brown. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family, whom she loved more than life itself. Sunday dinners were always special as she often cooked for others throughout San Diego County.

Jessie had a heart of gold and a smile that would brighten up any room. She was a pillar of the San Diego Community and was well-loved. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Herman Webster; her sisters, Laura Monroe, Willie Bea Vanhook and Alma Webb.

On October 25, 2013, Jessie B. Webb was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mable Pearson, Marie Miller, Michael Webb, Sherri Webb-Muhammad (James) and Gary Webb (LaShonda); her sisters, Leila Sharpe and Lettie Wilson; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends.
