BARKHAMSTED / PLEASANT VALLEY –GILCHREST – Jerry Wayne Gilchrest, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born March 27, 1944 in Gatesville, TX; the son of the late Joseph and Ruby (Braziel) Gilchrest. Jerry was an EM3 aboard the USS Grampus with the US Navy where he was trained as an electrician. He then raised his family in Kentucky. He was a wonderful brother, father, uncle, cousin, friend and an amazing grandfather. His treasured time with his daughters and grandchildren included activities such as cooking, making wine, flying kites, crab fishing, trips to aquariums, raising pigeons, and much much more. He was always up for almost any kind of experience and never missed an opportunity to travel or to laugh. To know him was to love him. He did not accept the concept of strangers and even those whose paths only crossed his for a moment were left smiling and laughing. He has friends and family throughout the country and his presence here will be widely and dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Lacy Gilchrest and significant other, Richard Page of East Hartford, Leslie Mack and husband Lenny of Granby and Elena Knutson and husband Del of Pleasant Valley; sister, Cheryl Eary and husband Delton of TX; many cherished grandchildren; one great grandchild on the way; and three nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by a sister, Belva Perkins and two nieces, Karen and Cindy. Friends may call on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 5 – 7 PM.
