Jerry W. Heeter, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday morning Jan. 12, at home after an extended illness. Jerry was born in Elkhart, Sept. 29, 1948, to Max and Mildred (Shriner) Heeter. He was married May 4, 1968, in Elkhart, to his wife of 48 years, Frances Krazit.

In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by 2 daughters, Stacy (Kyle) Notestine of Naperville, Ill. and Julie Heeter of Elkhart; 3 granddaughters, Lauren, Holly and Sydney; sister Sarita (Dominic) Cataldo; half sister Sharon (Peter) Strachan; and 2 stepsisters, Nan (Keith) Davis and Judy Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Evelyn Heeter.

He joined the Army in November of 1968 where he proudly served until October 1971. He came home to work for Levy’s Furniture where he did repair work that led to opening his own business Heeter Furniture Repair & Upholstery in 1973 for 28 years. Later he drove trucks for Cover Master and the Tag Industries until 2009.

Jerry spent many years camping with his family and friends and later onto the ball fields where he enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams and he also served as president of Osolo Little League. As the kids grew, he continued his time at the fields as an umpire for Little League baseball and softball.

He later returned to the softball fields as a fan where he watched and cheered on his three granddaughters and in the gyms for volleyball and many others sports in which they participated.

Jerry’s family will honor and remember him with a celebration of life service at Billings Funeral Home, of Elkhart, beginning with a visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, with visitation one hour prior.
