Jerry M. Pickel, 71, Pendleton, passed away July 28, 2011 at Riverview Hospital-Noblesville after an extended illness.
He was born March 3, 1940 in Anderson, Indiana, and resided in the Anderson/ Pendleton area all of his life. He retired as an engineer from Guide Lamp/Delphi Divisions of General Motors after 38 years of service maintaining managerial positions as a General Foreman, then superintendent of Maintenance and equipment engineering; manager Plant engineering then manager Health, Safety and Environment and worked with the Sigma Learning Group. Jerry enjoyed being a firearm enthusiast, tennis, snow skiing, photography, researching geneology, and all racing.
He built motorcycles, dragsters, race cars and since 2005 had taken his car to Bonneville, Maxton and the Texas Mile. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeanne Fraundorfer Pickel of Pendleton; daughter, Dr. Kerri Pickel of Muncie; brother, Max Pickel Beverly of Ft. Myers, Florida; nephew, Mike Newton Dawn of Fishers; nieces, Laura Holley Rich of Oakton, Virginia and Julie Pickel of Orlando, Florida; great nieces & nephews, Katherine & Lillian & Penn Holley, Lexi and Sarah Newton; special friends, Paul Lawther, Ned Thompson, Tom Hilliker, Brooks Townsend and Bob Gray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel & Wanda Chambers Pickel.
