Jerome Frederick Lepping, age 83, peacefully passed away at home after a rapid decline in health, December 15, 2014. Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Hollinger Lepping of Salem whom he married on January 7, 1954; his daughters, Diana (Jim) Allen of Lafayette, IN, and Patti Velky, of Pearland, TX; brother, Robert (Anna) Lepping of Salem; grandchildren, Tyler Allen, Meredith Allen, Zach (Julie) Velky, and Sarah Velky; and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was born on March 22, 1931 in Covington, KY, to parents Urban and Thelma Lepping. He spent his early childhood in Detroit and North Canton, moving to Salem in 1944 and then graduating from Salem High School in 1949. After high school, Jerry served four years during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller. After which, he returned to Salem and worked for 50 years in the family business, Superior Wallpaper and Paint, with his parents and brother Bob. Jerry was a great family man and a loving father. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, BPOE 305, and the Grandview Cemetery Board. He was a dedicated businessman, an avid pilot, and a loyal Salem Quaker and Notre Dame fan.
